The American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) determined that pharmacists need a convenient and affordable method to learn and expand their knowledge in senior care pharmacy practice. To meet this need, ASCP developed this interactive, self-assessment learning program with the following goals in mind:

• Help pharmacists successfully prepare for the geriatric pharmacy practice exam administered by the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CCGP)
• Expand pharmacists' knowledge in geriatric pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care delivery for senior citizens

Until this site was developed, individuals who wanted to prepare for the CCGP examination either had to travel to a live program, requiring participants to rearrange their schedules, or use a self-assessment examination, which relied heavily on the individual's ability to manage his or her own review efforts. ASCP has developed a third option that addresses some of the shortcomings of previous approaches. Using the technology of the World Wide Web, ASCP has been able to merge the convenience of self-paced instruction with the kind of guidance and support usually available only through classroom-based review courses. The result is a highly interactive, thoroughly individualized, learning system that meets both the academic and situational needs of participants.
